Fast growing cloud storage vendor Box announced the hiring of former CEO Enrique Salem as a “Special Advisor” who will work closely with the company’s executive team. 

Box CEO Aaron Levie said Salem will work closely with Box’s executive team, its global network of customers, and partner ecosystem “to innovate and advance a new model for cloud security.” 

Levie noted in a blog post that the rapid adoption of smartphones and tablets in the workplace, along with cloud storage to access information from virtually has left enterprise facing “a tremendous shift in information security.” 

He said a new approach to traditional security models is needed. 

“It’s one that entrusts users to access their information from anywhere. It’s one whose content policies transcend networks and instead follow the data. And it’s one that allows employees to use the best applications available to them, and not be held back by tired and broken systems.”
