China Internet Network Information Center announced it reopened today the application process for .cn and .中国 domain names . This decision comes three years after CNNIC decided to stop accepting idividuals to apply for .cn and .中国  because the vast majority of them were used as gambling and pornography websites.

       "Any individual or organization that can carry i independentncivil liabilities has the right to apply for the domain registration under the implementing rules," said CNNIC according to ChinaDaily .


      "Individuals will become the major drive for the development of websites in China.Reopening the domain name registration right to individuals is expected to boost the openness and uniqueness of the Internet," Xinhua News Agency reported, citing Qi Lin, vice-director of CNNIC.
